Responsibilities:
Caterpillar has exciting opportunities for accountants who want to be challenged, are mobile and are interested in progressing through a number of supervisory and leadership assignments. As a Senior Accounting Supervisor you will provide supervision with both technical and administrative responsibility for a team of primarily accounting management staff. Overall accounting policies have been prescribed, but there is a continual need to interpret, coordinate and record activities resulting from constantly changing business conditions.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Managing People:
- Manages a team of supervisors and management personnel by setting expectations and prioritizing work and projects..
- Evaluates and reports on staff performance, participates in employee selection, provides career guidance and training direction, complies with personnel practices, and promotes team rewards and successes.
- Provides technical guidance and expertise.
- Motivates team members to work towards individual and team goals and objectives, and fosters an environment of teamwork and cooperation.
- Managing Expectations:
- Participates in the development and support of business strategies
- Communicates effectively within the team and with internal and external customers and data providers, including presentations to all levels of management.
- Proactively interacts with customers to develop, understand and manage customer requirements and expectations.
- Serves as liaison between customer, team and data providers and manages customer relationships.
- Identifies, establishes, prioritizes and communicates goals and objectives of team.
- Provides services, makes recommendations and manages costs.
- Performing Complex Staff Work:
- Provides technical guidance and expertise on business issues of global impact and/or high complexity such as financial reporting requirements for business units, capital asset reporting, parent company inventory, consolidation of forecasting processes.
- Lead initiatives and make decisions outside team to represent the group (e.g., process improvements and new business requirements.)
- More experienced candidates will:
- Lead team in more comprehensive, diverse activities that require interpreting and adhering to U.S. GAAP and Caterpillar’s accounting practices and procedures.
- Collaborates with internal and external parties as appropriate
- Convinces non-accountants of appropriate financial treatment on business issues
- Provides creative solutions that challenge traditional methods and processes

Required Qualifications:
- Requires a 4-year degree in Accounting (or International equivalent)
- Demonstrated high levels of initiative, leadership, good judgment and superior communication skills.
- Strong analytical, process improvement, problem solving and human relations skills
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar’s businesses, products, suppliers and customers and a broad understanding of accounting and business processes/systems.
Desired Qualifications:
- 6-10 years of progressive accounting experience
- CPA / CMA certification (or International Equivalent)
- Prior supervisory experience
